At LIUNA, before we train skilled Laborers, we train the trainers. Skilled instructors are as vital to creating a skilled workforce as that skilled workforce is to delivering a good product.

LIUNA's Instructor Development Program (IDP) provides our training centers a steady source of skilled, professional instructors. This multi-year course of study trains instructors in technical construction skills, and adult education practices and techniques.

Dozens of market-specific “train-the-trainer” courses enable Laborer instructors to learn and teach specific skills, including:

• Asbestos abatement;
• Concrete practices and procedures;
• Construction math;
• Construction supervision;
• Hazardous waste remediation;
• Lead abatement;
• Construction lining and grading;
• Microbial (mold) remediation.

Throughout 2004, more than 300 Laborer instructors attended our professional and technical train-the-trainer courses, then worked with LIUNA local unions and signatory contractors to prepare Laborers for specific projects and jobs.
